NYS Pistol Permit Unrestricted Upgrade 2: “Tactical Medicine: Care Under Fire”

Equipment needed: Pens, notebook, food (we will have a working lunch), rescue / utility knife

Class length: 8 hours

Cost: $125.00

Class Description:

Tactical Medicine: Care Under Fire is the second class in the “Unrestricted Upgrade” series. Each of these classes are sequential and “stand alone,” meaning that you may take one class or the next depending on your individual needs and financial situation.

This is the first Threat Management course in the United States to include a Tactical Medicine element into the basic training model. The justification is simple: If you are carrying a handgun to protect yourself from lethal criminal threats you should be prepared for the eventuality that you (or a loved one) may be injured during the conflict by that same attacker.

“Tactical Medicine: Care Under Fire” was designed expressly for armed citizens who must be able to respond quickly and correctly to interpersonal conflict trauma. Due to the short “timeline–to–harm” ratio common in these types of incidents, this class will focus on how to abolish threats and treat a variety of wounds common to interpersonal conflict.

You must know beforehand how to save life with your emergency medical skills. In such critical situations seconds count and this class will give you that edge!

Here are a few of the topics that will be covered in this 8 hour class:

  1. Mindset in Tactical Medicine
  2. Creating a safe scene by abolishing threats
  3. Communications
  4. Minimization of threats & cover
  5. Triage
  6. Common types of trauma seen in interpersonal conflict
  7. Treatment
  8. Evacuation
  9. Use of field expedient tourniquets
  10. The augmented med kit

Remember:

Critical incidents are fast paced affairs and demand you have an effective and simple plan based on sound training. Whether you are carrying a gun or not, the emergency medical skills you learn in this class can save the day for injured loved ones or even yourself.

Commonly, instructors teaching within the “tactical firearms” field emphasize the concept of “weaponcraft.” There seems to be a pervasive assumption that neither you nor your loved one will ever be shot or injured during a critical incident.

Of course this is wishful thinking! Death resulting from blood loss due to a gunshot or knife wound is often preventable when you have the right training! The topics covered in this class are critically important in forming a strong and responsible student who can face a variety of critical incidents with a clear mind and balanced approach.
