About James D. Carr

"My philosophy for teaching is that I should train others as I enjoy being trained. Besides, a motivated and well informed student is a prepared citizen!"

James D. CarrJames D. CarrMy love of educating others in the fields of Threat Management and Firearms Training began when I was a student of Massad Ayoob and enrolled in his LFI 1: Judicious Use of Deadly Physical Force course. I remember thinking at the time that if Pistol Permit holders back in Western New York could only learn some of the same skills & principles their lives would be much easier and safer.

Ayoob suggested that I become a certified firearms instructor and seek membership with the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers (ASLET). I followed his recommendations and advanced rapidly to instructor level certification within a number of related fields.

That initial feeling of wonder and curiosity that I had in my first class with Ayoob has stayed with me all these years. When I teach a class I enjoy inspiring my students by combining a motivational teaching style, plenty of informative detail and excellence in training. My philosophy for teaching is that I should train others as I enjoy being trained. Besides, a motivated and well informed student is a prepared citizen!

Since 1997 I have been a full time Threat Management and Firearms Training instructor teaching classes throughout Western New York. I have been fortunate to have been trained by a number of the “classic instructors” within the field and this has had a profound influence in how I teach others.

I use a dynamic, “no holds barred” teaching style that reflects my dedication to the discipline as well as experiences gained in advanced training and field work. These unique and demanding life lessons motivate me to offer high quality, professional grade training in even the most basic class that I teach.
